History
From a humble farm to an ADAC (German Automobile Club) Super Site - a true success story!
Erlebnis Resort Aufenfeld is celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2023. Allow us to take you on a short journey through time and tell you about the origins of Camping Aufenfeld. In 1978, farmer Hermann and Anneliese Fiegl opened a small 2-season campsite on the grounds of their "Aufenfelder Farm". Camper demands were relatively modest back then. However, the family business focussed on quality from the outset and installed a restaurant, holiday apartments and spacious sanitary facilities, despite the fact they only had a small number of pitches.
Consistent expansion of facilities.
In order to be able to accommodate even the most intrepid winter campers, Camping Aufenfeld organised a free ski bus service to the ski resorts from the outset, as well as its own small ski lift with ski rental directly on site. As an experienced ski instructor, Mr. Fiegl was in charge of the ski lessons himself. Despite much scepticism from the local community, the Fiegly Family stuck rigidly to their strategy and, within the next few years, built two tennis courts, an open-air swimming pool with kiosk, several new pitches and a second sanitary building.
Indoor pool, leisure centre and more
Construction of the indoor swimming pool began in 1994. The indoor swimming pool brought new impetus and a significant increase in guests. So much so, that a further pitch extension became necessary. In 1998, however, not only were 150 new pitches created, but also two new sanitary buildings, a bathing lake, an outstanding recreational area for young and old, as well as a Western Fort with riding facilities, trapper's hut and Indian tepees.
Sanitary facilities and apartments
New standards were also set in the sanitary facilities: a new concept in the camping sector was created, in the form of luxury pitches with a private bathroom directly on-site. An innovation soon adopted by many top campsites in Europe. In 2003, the old restaurant building was completely demolished and replaced by the “Jagdhof - Hunter’s Lodge” with restaurant, modern sanitary facilities and 25 family apartments.
Wellness oasis and fun for the kids
Three years later, the existing indoor swimming pool was converted into a sauna & wellness oasis, creating Europe's 1st Western Wellness World! A few years later, the facilities were extended with a spacious indoor playhouse including a children's cinema. A major expansion of the leisure facilities followed in 2011 with the opening of the Zillertal Climbing Centre, which was subsequently extended in 2018. In 2014, the indoor pool building was extended once again, where you will now find several pools, a 60m-long water slide and a spacious panoramic relaxation room.
Exclusive apartments & luxury suites
To ensure that the sanitary buildings always conform to the highest quality standards, they have been renovated regularly over the past few years. One of the biggest innovations took place in 2020: the outdated Wiesenhof apartment building was demolished and, in its place, you will now find modern family apartments, private sanitary cabins and a new ski rental shop with ski room. The absolute highlight, however, are the new luxury suites with large panoramic terrace and private sauna.
The way forward
Modernisations and investments in maintaining the highest quality standards are also planned for the coming years, in order to continue to meet the demands of our guests. The Fiegl Family have invested passion, dedication and huge effort into transforming their former farm into one of Europe’s leading campsites. All this could be achieved, not least thanks to the efforts of their long-standing staff and numerous regular guests, who have contributed to this success with their wishes, suggestions and, of course, their loyalty.
